Here's an intro and an update to v0.11!


Since I didn't do an introductory post for v0.1 here's one for v0.11 with an update! This game is a top-down 2D puzzle game being made in RPG Maker. The game contains custom sprites and graphical assets I made myself! Also, any custom systems you see like the menu were made strictly through eventing in RPG Maker. The only plugin I'm currently using is TextToPicture which allows you to use any Text you make as a Picture and move it around the screen. I could do that graphically but it's a nice QoL feature to have to save myself some time!

The next few things I want to add are a save option in the menu, a laser beam mechanic that bounces off walls, a locked door mechanic, and a torch lighting mechanic. I'd also like to finish up the second floor and the story content within but that's probably a little ways out. I need to work on some new floor tiles and wall graphics as well as some props to fill the void.

This version contains the completion of the game's first floor. I may go back to it at some point and add some secrets or change the mapping with some new tiles and graphics, but the core of this floor is finished. There are two Captain's Logs to find on this floor! The only thing incomplete at the moment is the content for Captain's Log #2 which I'll add in the next version and try to fix some bugs below.

Known bugs:

  • You can access the menu during certain cutscenes and item acquisitions
  • Captain's Log #2 contents are not filled in
  • I had one freak autosave that spawned me in a complete black screen, couldn't see the menu character but could hear the sound effects. Haven't been able to replicate.
  • Cursor is occasionally slow in the menu
  • Tutorial text to open the menu stays behind the menu when it's called
